The USS Yorktown CV-5 was an aircraft carrier that served in the United States Navy during World War II.

It was the lead ship of its class and was named after the Battle of Yorktown, a key battle in the American Revolutionary War.

The Yorktown was commissioned in 1937 and was approximately 809 feet (247 meters) long, with a displacement of 19,800 tons.

It was equipped with a flight deck that could accommodate up to 86 aircraft, including fighters, bombers, and torpedo planes.

The Yorktown saw extensive service during World War II, including in the Pacific Theater of Operations, where it played a key role in several major battles.

It was present at the Battle of Coral Sea in May 1942, where it was heavily damaged by Japanese bombers but managed to return to port for repairs.

The following month, it participated in the Battle of Midway, where it was sunk by Japanese torpedoes after sustaining heavy damage.

Despite its short service life, the Yorktown was one of the most important aircraft carriers of the early years of World War II.

It played a key role in several major battles and helped to establish the U.S. Navy as a dominant force in the Pacific Theater of Operations.

Its loss at the Battle of Midway was a significant blow, but it also demonstrated the importance of aircraft carriers in modern naval warfare.
