The German super-heavy tank Panzerkampfwagen VIII Maus was built in 1943-1944 as a "breakthrough tank" to overcome the enemy's fortified defense lines. The thickness of the armor of the hull was 200 mm, and the turrets even 220 mm. The Maus became the heaviest tank in the world - its combat weight reached 188.9 tons, and a carburetor engine with a capacity of 2000 horsepower was used for its movement. It had to install two guns in the turret - 128 and 75 mm caliber. The crew consisted of 6 people. Since no bridge could withstand the enormous weight of the tank, he had to overcome the rivers along the bottom - for this, the mouse was equipped with a remote-controlled underwater movement system controlled by a cable from another similar tank standing on the shore. Only two prototypes of the machine were built, which the Germans blew up due to the approach of the advancing Red Army. Assembled from parts of two prototypes, "Maus" is today in the museum of armored vehicles in Kubinka near Moscow.
